Math Trailblazer's Curriculum in the Topsfield School District.

About the Topsfield Schools Math Trailblazer's Curriculum

In an effort to increase student learning and proficiency in Math, The Topsfield School District adopted Math Trailblazers as a district K-5 program. The primary goal of this curriculum is to create flexible mathematical thinkers who see connections between the mathematics they learn in class and the thinking they do in everyday life. One of the principal beliefs is that children can succeed in Math.

While working with Math Trailblazers we will continue to work with problem solving learned through active involvement in finding solutions to real problems. Students will continue to master basic facts and will work on improving computation accuracy.

Below are the goals of the Math implementation:

Students understand and apply the concepts and procedures of mathematics

Concepts and procedures from number sense

Concepts and procedures from measurement
Concepts and procedures from geometric sense

Concepts and procedures from probability and statistics
Concepts and procedures from algebraic sense

Students use mathematics to define and solve problems

Students use mathematical reasoning

Students communicate knowledge and understanding in both
everyday and mathematical language.

Students understand how mathematical ideas connect within mathematics to other subject areas and to real-life situations.
