Changing Decimals to Fractions

  Example:

Change 5.02 to a fraction

Follow these steps for changing decimals to fractions:

 

Step #1 : Determine the place value of the decimal - which place value does the
               last digit occupy?

                    2 is in the hundredths place

Step #2: Write the numbers after the decimal as the numerator(do not include
               preceding zeros)

                        The numerator will be 2 

Step#3: Write the place value as the denominator.

                   The denominator will be 100

Step #4: Any number before the decimal point become the whole number part
               of a mixed number:

                   The final fraction will be 5  2/100,  which can be reduced to 5  1/50
