Changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions

An Improper Fraction is a fraction with a numerator bigger than the denominator.  A Mixed Number is a whole number and a fraction.

   For example:

4/3 is a Improper Fraction

1  1/3 is a Mixed Number

Use this strategy for changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions:

Strategy: Multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator,
this becomes the new numerator and the denominator stays the same.

Example: Change 1  1/3 to a Mixed Number

Solution: Multiply 1 and 3 then add 1 to get 4

4 is the new numerator and the denominator stays as 3

                                                 Your answer is 4/3
