Criteria for Pioneer Reports

Purpose:

*To research a topic of the United States Westward Expansion ;
*To further your knowledge of this time in our history, and add to your
   appreciation of the hardships endured by our pioneering Americans; 
*To demonstrate your ability to organize and write a report;

Requirements:

*An illustrated cover
*A multi-paragraph report with the following:

- introduction of your topic with a clear focus question;
- answer that question with detailed information in the body of your report;
- summarize for the reader the role or significance of your topic to the expansion and      settlement of the western United States in your concluding paragraph;

 *No additional items are required to receive a grade above 90.

Timetable:

*Select topic by May 31 (See page 16 of Pioneers booklet)
*Determine focus question by June 1
*Research June 1 - 8
*Draft of opening paragraph by June 5
*Final report due on June 12

Resources:

*Library and computer lab time will be set aside to research
*Research sites will be available via the Topsfield Schools home page
*Books available via Mrs. Quinn
