Yearbook 2009/2010

We are now collecting baby pictures for the 6th grade section of the yearbook.  If you would like your child included, please email one digital baby picture to Heather Clark (hclark2007@hotmail.com) by February 28th.  Please name your picture in the following format: last name, first name, teacher, (ie,zavaskicamerondeoreo) to eliminate any confusion.  Unfortunately hard copy pictures will not be accepted, they must be in a digital format.  The kids usually love this section, so please send your pictures as soon as possible!  Thank you.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL, Sarah O'Leary
Each spring, students in grades 3-6 participate in the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS).  The MCAS measures where children are in relation to the standards as stated in the Massachusetts Frameworks.  From March 22 to April 12, children will take the English-Language Arts (ELA) MCAS.  Each grade level will complete two ELA sessions.  Grade four students will also complete a written composition during a third session.

From May 10 to May 27, students will take the Mathematics MCAS.  Again, each child will complete two sessions which measure their knowledge and application of mathematical skills and concepts.  During that same testing window, fifth grade students will also take the Science and Technology/Engineering MCAS.  This test also has two sessions.

We are putting the final touches on the ELA MCAS schedule and hope to publish the schedule soon.  I can share a few details now.  Due to religious observances, we will not schedule any testing on Tuesday, March 30 or Friday, April 2.  Students in the fourth grade will complete the written composition on Tuesday, March 23.

The results of the MCAS are an important tool that monitor individual, district and state progress.  The results help us to identify individual student strengths and areas of improvement, guide our instruction and evaluate our curriculum.

LIBRARY NEWS
Join the Friends on February 18th at 1:30PM for a 45 minute puppet show, "The Brave Little Tailor", by the Lionhart Puppet Company, "The Brave Little Tailor".  The story is about a loyal bird, two-headed ogre, a wicked giant, seven flies and a jar of jam  It all adds up to a fantastic journey that one young man must make to show the princess that he is worthy of her affections.  Based on the story by the Brother Grimm, and full of adventure and fun, this story teaches children that nothing is impossible if they put their minds to it.  The library will host many events for children during February vacation week.  Please stop by the Children's Room to see the schedule.
