Head Lice

Head lice do not prefer dirty heads to clean and their should be no shame in getting head lice. What is a shame is not sharing this fact so that early detection and treatment can prevent further spread! Please call the school nurse and let us know if you suspect your child has head lice. Signs and symptoms of head lice are a very itch scalp and nits attached to the hair shaft.


Treatment

· Call you pediatrician about special shampoos
· Comb out all nits
· Wash all bedding and clothes in hot water
· Place all toys, helmets, hats and stuffed animals that can not     be washed in a heavy duty garbage bag for 2 weeks
· Vacuum all rugs and furniture
· Vacuum car and child safety seat
· Wash all brushes and combs in hot soapy water for 20 minutes
· Bag all hair accessories for 2 weeks
· Have your child checked prior to returning to school for nits      by the school nurse.

Recheck your child frequently because it is easy to miss one little nit.
