Take Precautions outside:

When walking in the woods all students should wear:

· Long sleeved light colored shirt
· Long pants tucked into socks
· Shoes or sneakers
· Hat
· If desired insect repellent containing DEET (follow all directions)

A tick check will be done at school and you will be notified if your child has been bitten. Your child should have a bath or shower that night and you should do a thorough tick check as well.

The deer tick transmits Lyme disease after being infected by a woodland animal. The tick takes 24 hours to transmit the disease so quick removal of the tick is essential.

Early symptoms of Lyme disease are:

Head ache
Chills and fever
Prolonged fatigue
Muscle and joint pain
Bulls-eye rash can (but not always) develop at the site of a tick bite.wpe4.jpg (2733 bytes)

You should seek medical attention if you see any symptoms.
